‘Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan’, based on the novel of the same name by Punjabi novelist and Jnanpeeth Award winner Professor Gurdial Singh, is said to be the first Punjabi film screened at the Venice film festival. Delhi based Gurvinder Singh’s world acclaimed Punjabi movie was released in 2011. In a refined balladic manner, this atmosphere-driven film tackles the fate of a repressed family in a village in Punjab. Subjugated and marginalized, the characters silently but emphatically emanate restlessness and discontent. Screening will be followed by an interaction with the film maker and it is open to public. If you believe in meaningful cinema, this is the right moment to stand up.
